Prohibited & Restricted Items from All Origin Ports, with Import Licensing Requirements

The following items will NOT be accepted for carriage by iShop. This list includes items which are prohibited for carriage by any law, regulation, or statute of any federal, state or local government of any country from, to, or through which the items may be carried.

Note: For international carriage there may be additional prohibited items specified by the country of destination. Please also note that these lists are subject to change due to IATA and airline regulations.

 

Items Prohibited for Shipping

  • Airmail Photographic Printing Paper
  • All counterfeit/ pirated materials or articles including Base or Counterfeit Coin of any Country
  • Beads composed of inflammable celluloid or other similar substances
  • Blank Invoices
  • Coupons for foreign football pools or other betting arrangements
  • Exhausted tea or tea mixed with other substances. For the purposes of this item, “exhausted tea”
  • means any tea which has been deprived of its proper quality, strength, or virtue by steeping, infusion, decoction, or other means
  • Implements appertaining to the reloading of cartridges
  • Materials of any description with a design which is intended to breach the peace or to offend the religious views of any class of persons in Nigeria
  • Meat, Vegetables or other provisions declared by a health officer to be unfit for human consumption
  • Piece goods and all other textiles including wearing apparel, hardware of all kinds, crockery and china or earthenware goods bearing inscriptions (whether in Roman or Arabic characters) from the Koran or from the traditions and commentaries on the Koran
  • Second-hand clothing
  • Bullion and Silver or metal alloy coins not being legal tender in Nigeria
  • Antiques, works of art and fine art with an individual value in excess of £5,000
  • Clinical and / or Biological samples (including but not limited to bodily fluids and tissue samples)
  • Complete original and imitation Firearms and Firearm Parts (includes rifle butts, trigger mechanisms, screws / bolts etc which are manufactured for the sole purpose of creating a functional firearm), ammunition, explosives and explosive devices
  • Dangerous and Hazardous goods including but not limited to Nuclear Industrial waste and other Toxic waste, Flammable Substances, Matches made with white phosphorous, Dry Ice, Biological Substances, UN Classified dangerous goods and any goods specified as such under International Air Transport Association regulations (“IATA”), the Agreement on Dangerous Goods by Road (“ADR”) or International Maritime Dangerous Goods (“IMDG”) regulations
  • Airconditioning Units, Freezers, Refrigerators (anything that contains refrigerant gas) subject to IATA regulations.
  • Furs
  • Human Remains or Ashes
  • Illegal goods and Ivory
  • Lithium batteries – both ION and Metal (unless within a product, and then must be shipped via our dangerous goods courier
  • Powerbanks
  • Broken or damaged mobile phones, as this is against IATA Regulations
  • Live animals (including but not limited to mammals, reptiles, fish, invertebrates, amphibians, birds, insects, larvae, and pupae), animal parts, livestock and insects
  • Loose Precious and Semi-Precious Stones (cut or un-cut, polished or un-polished)
  • Pornography (whether in printed, film or digital format)
  • Sex toys
  • Tobacco, loose leaf tobacco products and pre-rolled cigarettes
  • Firecrackers and any items containing explosives
  • This can include items that are country-specific (e.g. the importation of alcohol) and commodities considered to be illegal internationally, such as Counterfeit Goods, Ivory and Narcotics

Spirits, OTHER than the following:

  • Alcoholic bitters, liqueurs, cordials and mixtures admitted as such in his discretion by the Comptroller-General and which are not deemed to be injurious spirits within the meaning of any enactment or law relating to liquor or liquor licensing
  • Brandy, i.e. Spirit Distilled in Grape – growing countries from fermented grape juice and from no other materials and Stored in wood for a period of three years
  • Drugs and medicinal spirits admitted as such in his discretion by the Comptroller-General
  • Gin, i.e. Spirit – Produced by distillation from a mixed mash of cereal grains only saccharified by the diastase of malt and the Flavoured by redistillation with juniper berries and other vegetable ingredients and of a brand which has been notified as an approved brand by notice in the Gazette and in containers labelled with the name and address of the owner of the brand of produced by distillation at least three times in a pot still from mixed mash or barley, rye and maize saccharified by diastase of malt and then rectified by re-distillation in a pot still after the addition of juniper berries and other vegetable materials
  • Methylated or denatured spirit, i.e. Mineralized Methylated spirit mixed as follows: to every ninety parts by volume of spirits, nine and one-half parts by volume of wood naphtha and one-half of one part by volume of crude pyridine and to every 455 litres of the mixture, 1.7 litres of mineral naphtha or petroleum oil and not less than 0.7 grams by weight of powdered aniline dye (Methyl violet) and so in proportion for any quantity less than 455 litres and Industrial
  • Methylated spirit imported under licence from the Comptroller-General and mixed as follows: to every ninety-five parts by volume of spirits, five parts by volume of wood naphtha and also one-half of one part by volume of the mixture and Spirits denatured for a particular purpose in such a manner as the Comptroller-General in any special circumstance may permit
  • Perfumed Spirits
  • Rum i.e. Spirit – Distilled directly from sugar-cane products in sugarcane growing countries and stored in wood for a period of three years
  • Spirits imported for medical or scientific purposes, subject to such conditions as the Comptroller-General may prescribe
  • Spirits totally unfit for use as portable spirits admitted to entry as such in the discretion by the Comptroller-General
  • Whisky, i.e. Spirit – Obtained by distillation from a mash or cereal grains saccharified by diastase of malt and stored in wood for a period of three years
  • Containing more than forty-eight and one-half per centum of pure alcohol by volume except denatured, medicated and perfumed spirits, and such other spirits which the Comptroller-General, in his discretion, may allow to be imported subject to such conditions as he may see fit to Impose

iShop may at its sole discretion refuse to carry other items not listed above.

 

The following items MAY be accepted for carriage by iShop, as long as all legal requirements are met.  All items will be checked and sent in accordance with IATA regulations and are subject to change. These items require specific permits, licenses or have additional restrictions and costs to cover required packaging and handling.

Items Restricted for Shipping

  • Automotive engines, and any other engine that runs off petrol, can be sent however they require a PURGE certificate to ship
  • Medications – all medications require a personal import permit
  • Seeds- all seeds and selected plants will require a personal import permit. Please seek guidance from the Ministry of Agriculture on which plants are allowed in the country before you order
  • Dangerous and Hazardous goods including but not limited to Aerosols, Flammable Substances such as alcohol, nail varnish, perfumes and aftershaves – any such items will be checked and sent in accordance with IATA regulations and are subject to additional charges
  • Drones- all drones will require a personal import permit
  • Any other item classified as dangerous goods which may require additional packaging and handling fees
  • Television – please note that we do not accept responsibility for damage to televisions shipped with iShop. There will also be additional costs to all televisions shipped with iShop, as all televisions must be crated and will be charged on the volumetric weight
  • Any other item classified as dangerous goods which may require additional packaging and handling fees

Any of the above listed items which we receive on your behalf, can be returned to sender for an additional administration fee plus the postal costs for the return.

We will contact you if we receive items that cannot be sent, to ask you what you would like us to do with it. If we do not receive a response within 14 days, we will dispose of the items.
